The ethics minor is designed to help students examine their values and societal beliefs so that they are more responsibly chosen.
No student may declare a minor until they have declared a major. A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 is required for admission to the minor program and at least three of the courses must be completed at the college. Students may not elect a minor in the same discipline as their major program.
Every candidate for the minor in ethics must take six PHI designate courses from the list below, based on advisement:
A. Ethics Core (9 credits)
PHI 102 Introduction to Ethics
- AND -
PHI 351 Ethics Bowl
- AND -
PHI 310 History of Ethics
- OR -
PHI 314 Contemporary Ethics
B. Ethics Electives (9 credits)
Select three courses from the following, based on advisement:
PHI 110 Meaning of Life
PHI 210 Existentialism
PHI 300 Topic in Ethics (e.g., Bio-Ethics)
PHI 301 History of Political Philosophy
PHI 304 Philosophy of Law
PHI 308 Philosophy of Love and Sex
PHI 401 Topic in Ethics
Total Required Philosophy Courses: 6
Total Required Philosophy Credits: 18
