The skills I developed in BSC’s Philosophy program have been instrumental in my academic, professional, and personal life. My undergraduate degree in Philosophy not only prepared me for law school, but it also provided me with the tools to succeed. Studying Philosophy taught me how to think analytically, be cognizant of other’s perspectives, and engage in meaningful and effective conversations. Philosophy helped me realize how important it is to always ask and truly understand the “why” behind another person’s position, which allowed me to be open to other’s values and successfully discuss and resolve issues with authority, logic, and persuading reason. Adaptability and the ability to pivot and let go of assumptions and preconceived ideas is a highly sought-after skillset that I was able to develop while studying Philosophy. These skills are imperative to professional success and are essential to solving the controversial issues and challenges our world is currently facing.
